In our western culture “God as provider” is really a foreign concept. By that I mean we praise God because he has provided good jobs, homes, health etc. but in reality we have transferred our praise to Him and shifted our allegiance toward these various provisions and twisted them as if they were coming from our own efforts. It’s like waving to God thanking Him for giving you this great job and never referring back to Him again, “I’m good” we say through our everyday actions… “I can take of it from here!”

I was raised to believe, especially because of the ‘fall of man’ that by the sweat of my brow I will work and it will always be difficult and onerous. {1} This old construct destroys the divine picture of God providing. Our sin of self-provision is seen through our perverse gratitude toward God as witnessed by our workaholism, credit debt and hearts full of unfulfilled wants. Our eyes have moved from His divine screen which displays provision for all the things we need for life and godliness toward personal debt & bankruptcy which plagues Christendom as much as secular society and in this we grieve the power of the Spirit to provide according to God’s divine plan and purposes. The economics of this world are man-made. The profits of this world leave us with storage units filled with stuff that moth and rust decay. Yet hear God’s directive, “Matt 6:19-24 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.....

We have store houses crammed full of things we were never meant to acquire. Earthly financial & economic structures plague and dominate believer’s minds and hearts. Our eyes are cloudy and our ears are stuffed with ungodly wisdom. Our body is full of darkness because the light and liberty of a divine plan has been usurped by our ‘natural pursuits and remedies’ and bypassing the ‘supernatural’ wisdom of God. We are bound to RSP’s and Savings accounts to guard our future lest God not provide when we ‘can no longer provide or work for ourselves.’ (i.e. old age or unforeseen infirmities)  Our hearts have become wrapped in the pursuit of things that decay, rot and are stolen..... continued ....
